This journey into the photographic arts started in my native country of Peru. Since a very young age, I learned the value of traveling and recording those memories forever. I love to travel and take pictures of my adventures. Those are some of my favorites things in life as well as listen into music and go to the beach. Travel, nature, art, architecture and the living city are some of my favorite subjects to photograph.
Soon after moving to NYC, I started working as a professional photographer. It's very exciting to announce that my photographs appear in the book Thornton Willis: Interviews and Essays, that you can buy on the artist site.
I love photography and New York City. Since my arrival in NYC, I’ve always been interested in exploring the city and finding new and fun areas. Coming to the city, I brought my great love of photography and it was an obvious marriage, to combine the two. My skills and equipment have changed, as well as my passion for both continues to grow.
The idea of The Walls Project was to give myself goals and focus. My first apartment had a small foyer, which was four blank and white walls. As a funny coincidence, my maiden name is Paredes, which means walls in Spanish. So, everything came together all at once, to give birth to this project.
It was so wonderful to complete the collection and have showings at my home. Now, with my new website, I have an online version ready to share with the world. I hope you’ll take a moment to check out the collection that’s below.
Soon it will be a decade of me being in the city, and I had walked around most of the island. On this site I’ll showcase my latest work and provide an archive for you to experience earlier visuals.
I’ll be posting many more pictures of my adventures monthly. It will include not only NYC, but around Peru, Canada and Europe…
If you are interested in any photograph, please contact me. You will be able to purchase limited editions of work.
There is so much more to come!
New York is amazing and crazy. It’s now my life and I love it. My brother is also amazing and crazy, and he was my tour guide for my first visit to the Big Apple. This “experienced” expedition leader crafted a schedule with no time for resting. Over the three days, he budgeted 30 minutes for sitting. I love him greatly, but this wasn’t my ideal way to explore Manhattan.
On my second visit, I was at the beginning learning about the city. Printing my daily routes on how to go to each place I wanted to visit, carrying a subway map and being able to explore the city just with my camera. It’s amazing how much more you can enjoy when you’re not in a rush! I love to see and take pictures not only of the landmarks, but the Real New Yorkers, people being themselves. I remember recently seeing a guy in SoHo, with his hair color matching his outfit, making such a great statement! Hopefully next time I will able to take a picture of him…
Then, the idea of putting together my first project came alive. To create The Walls project was an interesting challenge for me. As I said before, the name came from my maiden name, which is Paredes (Spanish for walls). I had an “empty canvas” in the small foyer of my previous apartment and I had so much work to do! Being surrounded by artists is amazing and inspired but I felt overwhelmed too. Later, it was satisfying and exciting to see how so many photographs where coming together to create the island of Manhattan, the way I see it.
I never thought it was going to end. How many trips to Ikea does it take? After over 3 trips to Ikea for frames, way too many trips to the printer and over a 100 holes in my drywall, my suffering and learning gave birth to The Walls Project. I remember my guests with a Pisco Sour on one hand and a Papita a la Huancaina on the other, looking around the small “opening” and saying “I picked my top three!”, “Oh my gosh! It’s is amazing!”, “I’ll buy this one if you ever want to sell it.” They were surprised and delighted. I felt very proud and thankful for their response. It touched my heart seeing so much love and acceptance of my work.
When we moved, we left a lot of holes on the walls… but now all the project is in this site for your enjoyment. So here it is! The Walls Project is ready to share with the world. Enjoy!!!
